Education Councillors in Scotland

Ask your Council to commit to supporting deaf children!

The numbers of fully qualified Teachers of the Deaf employed by councils in Scotland has fallen by 40% over the last decade, as shown on our National Deaf Children's Society deaf education map.

The work Teachers of the Deaf do alongside deaf learners and their families is crucial, helping them overcome barriers to education. Across Scotland we urgently need more fully-qualified Teachers of the Deaf.

Local authorities must act now and commit to returning Teacher of the Deaf numbers back to 2011 levels over the next 10 years. Deaf children have the right to get the support they need in education to fulfil their potential, and Teachers of the Deaf are crucial to this.

Simply fill in the form to generate a draft email to your local authority’s lead councillor for education. You will be able to edit the message before you send it.

Please note: this action is only for people living in Scotland
